GET INVOLVED
Volunteer
Simply put, we couldn’t do what we do without our volunteers! It takes at least one or two volunteers to assist our instructors in supporting each student. Plus, there’s all the time involved in running our day-to-day operations and staging special events. Our staff team is spectacular, but we just can’t do it all on our own.
We welcome those who want to join in making our programs a success.
Volunteer requirements include:
• Willingness to commit to a minimum number of volunteer service hours.
• Ski ability is preferred, but not absolutely required.
• Heartfelt respect for the special needs requirements of our CAWV students and their families.
OUR VOLUNTEER POSITIONS INCLUDE:
Program Assistant – Each CAWV instructor and student need the support of several volunteers for a successful lesson. Program Assistants work closely with an CAWV Instructor to handle equipment, help the student and join in the fun. Each Assistant follows Instructors’ guidance, and, occasionally, Assistants work independently as a “buddy” to more experienced students.
Volunteer Instructor – Instructors assume responsibility for students assigned by the CAWV Team. Each Instructor works closely with the student and the CAWV Team to provide guidance towards students’ skill development, with a goal of teaching a lesson while facilitating independence. Our Volunteer Instructors are usually volunteers with extensive experience and specialized training.
Jr. Volunteer – These are youth instructors in training.
Office/Outreach Volunteer – Behind the scenes work keeps CAWV going. If being on the slopes is not your thing, there are plenty of other ways to get involved. We need help with everything from being an ambassador for CAWV at fun events, to helping out with office tasks and lots of little things in between.
Board Service
Challenged Athletes of West Virginia is governed by a group of leaders who serve as our Board of Directors. If you are a member of our local community or a member of the broader community of those who want to see our adaptive sports programs flourish, we invite you to talk with us about opportunities on our Board or one of its working committees.
Make a Financial Contribution
CAWV is supported by grants, endowments, fund raising activities, and private donations. The expense of our program activities is considerable, constantly growing, and a daunting challenge that we must consistently rise to.
